How long does treatment last?

If you are concerned about your child's head shape, we advise that you book a Plagiocephaly Assessment in the first instance to establish the severity of the condition. STARband™ treatment is not offered to every baby seen at Steeper Clinic as intervention may not be suitable in some cases.

If you have been offered STARband™ treatment, your Orthotist will teach you how to help your baby adjust to wearing the STARband™helmet at the fitting appointment.

After a 5 day adjustment period, your baby will progress to wearing STARband™ for 23 hours a day.

Typically, treatment takes between 12 and 18 weeks, if it is started between the ages of 4 and 7 months.  It can take longer dependent on the age and severity of the condition.

The decision to discontinue treatment is made when the STARband™ has corrected your baby’s head shape to a point where treatment is no longer required.

Regular check ups with your Orthotist will check on your baby’s progress, make any adjustments and answer any questions you might have.

This superior technology is only available to Steeper Clinic in London, Leeds and Newcastle.
