RSLSteeper Clinical Conference 2011

The 2011 RSLSteeper Clinical Conference took place on 21st and 22nd October at the Holiday Inn, Coventry. The theme for this year’s conference reflected our new vision ‘Improving People’s Lives’ with presentations on outcomes and evidence to demonstrate how we achieve this.

Mark Davies, Divisional Director for Orthotic and Prosthetic Services opened the conference welcoming our key note speaker Blake Norquist. From Florida, USA, Blake is a Certified Orthotist and Cranial Products Manager for Orthomerica Products Inc. – the supplier of STARband cranial remoulding helmets. The STAR family of cranial remoulding helmets are the world’s leading orthotic treatment for positional plagiocephaly and have been used to treat over 125,000 babies worldwide since 2000. Blake provided a fascinating presentation into deformational plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) and craniosynostosis including incidence, cause and both surgical and orthotic treatment options.

Kate Chauhan, Clinical Specialist Orthotist for Steeper Clinic followed Blake presenting case studies of babies Kate has successfully treated at the Steeper Clinic in Leeds in the last year.

The conference was well attended with around 80 of RSLSteeper’s clinicians who work in partnership with the NHS and within Steeper Clinic
